For decades, soccer clubs have been formed all over the world. The reasons for forming soccer clubs is wide and varied. Sometimes a city has a need to show itself off. Other times an ethnic group wants to display its pride and superiority. The one common thread that weaves through all of these stories, however, is the love of soccer. This love of the game is especially evident at the amateur level, because none of these players earn their living by playing. The sheer joy of kicking the ball around is sufficient motivation to go out and play. All players have felt the thrill when they smell the soccer pitch's freshly-mown grass or when they hear the characteristic thump of foot meeting ball. Amid this backdrop was formed the Stare Byki Football Club.
Many players have worn the colors of Stare Byki FC and each has had his own reasons for wanting to be a member of the club. All of these players, regardless of ability, possess the desire to play soccer just for the sake of playing. That a club, even one as informal as the Byki, continues to persevere is due to its ability to consistently deliver benefits. These include the fun that comes with winning, the satisfaction of playing well and the simple camaraderie of being part of a team. That's how a motley collection of players who prepared to just play a challenge match decided to stay together. This led to participation in organized competition where the club has achieved some measure of success.
It is my personal passion for the great game and for this club which prompted this work. This history mainly describes Stare Byki FC's activities on the field, but also includes many of my favorite anecdotes. Although I have attempted to be complete and thorough in these pages, I'm sure that some stories have been misplaced by an overtaxed memory.
Stare Byki FC has been in existence for over six years, and it is time to record what has happened. Original players and supporters can read these accounts and see that they were in on the ground floor of something very special. Future generations of ball players and fans can learn exactly how it all came to be.
